Not-So-Basic Neutrals

Isn’t it funny that February is only a few days shorter than most months, but seems to go by infinitely faster than every other month?! I have to admit that I really love when February ends, in my mind, it’s the sign that the worst winter is usually over, and we’ll hopefully start seeing signs of spring soon.
Depending on where you live, this might ring more true, but in Chicago it can still be pretty hit or miss. I’ve witnessed snow storms in late April and 80 degree weather in early March, so there’s really no telling.
When I lived in Texas, it was about this time of year when I’d start shopping for spring dresses, sandals and swimsuits, but since I won’t be wearing any of those too soon in Chicago, I refresh my closet with classics that can work now and later. I always find that Ann Taylor does a great job of creating gorgeous pieces that are transitional and can easily be dressed up or down, and work for multiple seasons. I love when I get more use of out my clothes, so that’s always a win in my book.
The striped shirt has a perfect mock neck. The simple cardigan has ties at the sleeves that I absolutely love. A basic pair of black jeans with an edgy cut at the hem and a frayed edge—I’m obsessed with these! Lastly, a great pair of tan mini heels with a metallic heel!
Best of all, I know I’ll get plenty of use out of all these pieces as spring and summer comes as their transitional and so versatile! I’ll just swap out my pants for shorts or skirts and my sweater for lighter tops!

Another thing I love about this time of year is that feeling of excitement and new beginnings. It’s a bit like the start of a new year, and it gets me energized and ready to make changes as the warm weather approaches. Anyone else?
The arrival of spring is a bit like coming out of hibernation and it’s always so welcome! Especially if you live in a cold climate!
When it comes to buying new clothes, is it important for you to get lots of use out of your pieces? Does your closet have lots of classic neutrals too?
BTW, another classic neutral outfit, and a never-fail outfit.
